Joys and Pains of a Dog Owner
Sep 25, 2008 Daily Blurbs
I woke up bright and early today… not because I want to, but because I heard Jasper, my four-month-old black male labrador, whining so loud. I got up, only to find him outside his cage, leashed. My dad already took him out of the cage to take him for his morning walk. I am so glad he is home this week!
The first thing I did was bathe Jasper. He kind of stinks already, but I only gave him a bath last Saturday. My dad helped me bathe him. He’s actually quite calm when in water. It is actually a fact that Labrador Retrievers love water. We scrubbed him, scrubbed him good. We need to get a new shampoo for him, a deodorizer one.
After Jasper’s bath, I gave him his morning food. He’s only fed twice a day, morning and in the afternoon. Then I fed Kali and Booboo. While they were busy eating, I started cleaning up the living room. Booboo is shedding right now so I had to vacuum the living room, dining room and the kitchen area. I had to rearrange the furniture while doing that because I want to make sure I got all them furs.
Vacuuming is the first step, the next is mopping the floor. I started with the living room, pushing all the sofas off their places and mopping underneath them. Mopping is easy, removing the stains while mopping? Pain in the hands. I have to exert extra effort because I have to make sure the stains are gone.
After cleaning the entire first floor, I was drained. Drained of all the stored energy I got from sleeping the night before. I haven’t even had breakfast yet.
This is just one pain of being a dog owner. The responsibility is real. It’s like having kids, only, they don’t talk back at you or hate you after punishing them for something they did wrong. You don’t have to give them self defense products because you know they can defend themselves. Even if I am so tired, I AM happy. When they look at me with their puppy dog eyes, all three of them, I know that the pains are worth it!

I have a Siberian Huskie and he’s molting like crazy right now. It’s not just like one or two single hairs either … instead there’s HUGE clumps. My mum and I are constantly vacuuming, haha!
Labs and Goldens do have quite a strong body odour I find. My auntie has a Golden and my friend has two Labs and they always have a weird smell about them no matter how many times they are bathed. I think a good quality shampoo is the way to go. That’s what I used to use on my previous dog. Luckily Huskies don’t have any body odour so I don’t have that problem any longer. Hope you can sort it out though =)
Dogs are my life. I could never be without one. The effort is deffo worth what you get back from them.
