Young Love

A group of teenagers, possibly from a swimming excursion, rode the same jeepney I was in, during my ride home from my internship. Those kids were kind of rowdy. I noticed two young couples sitting on the opposite end. The first couple seemed younger than the other, and they were just sitting side by side, girl’s head on the guy’s shoulder. The other one? Well, they were making out! Kids today. Funny how I say “kids”. I guess I am really that old, at 25.

Now, I don’t want to be judgmental or anything, but, the girl’s breasts haven’t even developed yet! For all I know, the guy is not even circumcised. What does she know? The guy she’s kissing right now, might not be the guy she’ll be kissing five years from now. Cynical, eh? In our culture, making out in public is a big no no. If my mother was there, she wouldn’t have stopped reminding me not to do that in public because if she sees me, she’s going to beat me up. Well, not really.

I am not saying that I’ve never been in love when I was a teen. As a matter of fact, I had my first boyfriend when I was 13 years old, but I don’t remember making out with that guy. I never even kissed him, nor held hands. We just talked in school, on the phone, and wrote each other notes. It was innocent back then, but now, things have changed.

Is it the media? I don’t really know what happened. Teens today are much liberated that it used to be. I know my parents think that way about my generation, too, and I can understand how they feel now, seeing young people thinking they are in love and against the world.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not against young relationships. I just think that there should be limitations. It is OK to enjoy the company of the opposite sex, and discover things that would actually contribute to who you are as a person. But, giving yourself up at a very young age, for me, takes away a big part of you. Innocence, for example. It’s sad when a young person has been corrupted early in life.

I think that one of the factors is the lack of guidance from their parents. I know that it is hard to talk to parents sometimes, and, most of the time, it is the parents fault. Not that they don’t have enough time with their kids, but, sometimes they tend to make you feel that some topics are taboo. When I become a parent someday, I hope that I can be a good one, if not great. I want my kids to feel that they can talk to me about anything. Even love.

Friday Booboos

dog, booboo

Everyone who knows me is aware that I love my dog, Booboo. She’s been with me for more than a year now, and she continues to make me happy. When I feel so tired and stressed out, a little cuddle from her and her unending lick on the face, can surely make me feel otherwise. I’ve never bonded with a dog as much as I have with her. I used to have a cat, though, but he died. Someone shot his foot and it got infected. Anyway, I haven’t bathed her yet, and it’s been 2 weeks! I bathe her every Sunday, but since I went out last week with Ryan and his dad, I didn’t get a chance to bathe her. She’s actually scared of the water, and she would hide from me when she knows “it’s time”. But when I finally get a hold of her, she would let me dog loverpour the water on her body. Good thing about her is she doesn’t stink, not a little bit of stench, even if she hasn’t taken a bath yet. For all those dog lovers out there, you may use my “dog lover stamp” and link it to Friday Booboos.
