Give Us A Call?
Nov 23, 2007 Hype
Yesterday, my aunt from Spain gave us a call, updating us about her life with her family abroad. She has been living in Spain with her family for more than 20 years now. She is planning on flying to Manila this coming holiday, and she was actually discussing the plans with my mom, unfortunately, after about 30 minutes of the call, the line was cut.
It took her about 20 minutes to give us a call back. She said, she had to buy another phone card, which she rants as expensive. I told her that I know of a website that sells the cheapest calling cards, especially since she calls at least three times a week, and she also calls my aunt in the United States. My aunt actually bought 10 calling cards! That’s the way to do it, since it’s very important to be connected during the holiday season.

The Intern
Nov 23, 2007 Buzz, Daily Blurbs, School
Yesterday, I told you about the interview for my internship. I was a bit nervous, of course, but since I’ve been interviewed before, I already know how it really feels like to talk to a boss. My dad drove me and Lexie to our interview. We didn’t know how to go there.
There were other applicants vying for the same position, and the others for an actual job. The company is European-managed, but the employees are all Filipinos. Some even came from my school, which is great. At least, there is some sort of familiarity. I feel that the people are nice, some even talked to us, asking us where we’re from and what we do.
I was interviewed by the owner of the company. I believe he is British-Columbian-Filipino. I can hear a tinge of British accent from him. He was very open, but I can also sense that he is quite strict. He said that he doesn’t have a specific place for me right now, but what will happen is, I will work alongside him. He wants to train me for a more corporate position.
They plan on expanding the company and they are in dire need of people to represent their company during client meetings, which right now, he does them all. Since their company does a lot of things, it’s quite a mess in his office and his phone kept on ringing. It’s an organized chaos, I guess, which is fine with me. They do web design, printing, publishing; they also make giveaways, like backpacks, mouse pads, pens… anything that they can put a client’s logo to.
This is going to be a great training ground for me. If everything works out, he said that I may be absorbed by the company if that is the direction that I want to go to. I will actually have a job after I graduate! That means, there is less confusion about my future. I don’t want to close my doors, though. This internship may even help me shed some pounds, if not, I might need a miracleburn!
I start on Saturday! Wow, I am an intern!

Cool Living
Nov 22, 2007 Buzz, Daily Blurbs
Living in a tropical country surely has its ups and downs. Here in the Philippines, we only have enough seasons; a dry and a rainy season; no dry season; not very
pronounced seasons; and an even distribution of rain throughout the year. So basically, we only have two defined seasons, Wet or Dry. Right now, even though it is cold at night, at high noon it can be scorching hot. In addition to having a hot climate, we experience rain in the afternoons. That means, it will be humid, which is the worst thing to feel.
We don’t have air conditioning, so we have to settle for ceiling fans. Sometimes, I sit in the middle of the room just to make sure the air reaches me. I even read a book while I’m at it. Isn’t ceiling fans one of the best inventions? I mean, not only does it cool you off, it also saves space.
When my parents went for a home improvement shopping, I was the one who suggested a ceiling fan, since we need to save space. There were lots to choose from and I especially liked fanimation. The designs are pretty cool. My mom likes the monte carlo fans, because she says it’s a cross from a modern design and a classic. My dad chose from the modern ceiling fans though, because of the wide selection with sleek designs.
When I get my own place, I’ll probably settle for a ceiling fan in the living room area. But definitely air conditioning on my bedroom!
