Php100 For Your Vote?

Yesterday, the Philippine Local Election was held. I was one of the poll watchers for a very good candidate, Gilberto L. Igtiben. We were confident that our candidate for the Barangay Captain will win. But money does buy votes. I am worried for my community because the one who won is a member of a family of politicians who’s been known to practice corruption.

I remember moving in this community in 1994, but only in the last 3 years have I felt safer to walk alone in our community. You can even see that the streets are cleaner and are being maintained well. Before, I felt a great resentment towards my parents for making us move here. I left a lot of friends and a better school. I am afraid that the things that I resented the most, would go back.

Barangay Captain Gilberto Igtiben did a great job during his time. He was able to send out of school youths to school; built local infrastructures; provided free medicine; gave business opportunities to housewives; and he even gave me a chance to use my skills in digital graphics.

A measly Php100 for for your vote? How long can anyone spend this money? One day? Two days? HALF-A-DAY?! Why didn’t they think of the 3 years that they would have to deal with this newly elected official? That scum-of-a-b!@$%! They even harassed some of the election officers. My mother knows 2 election officers personally, and they were threatened to ride another vehicle with the ballot box and be taken to another place and get the ballots switched. That wasn’t the first time that happened. Politics is really dirty.

According to the local news, some local officials made this election a trial for the next national elections. A lot of communities were tagged to have had “Failure of Elections”. In Sulu, no election officers came because days before, running candidates tried to kill each other using machetes.

I can feel the sadness in the air. A lot of real voters are disappointed with the results. We were able bag positions for barangay members. Like Ace Servillon, who bagged the first position. All our candidates for Sangguniang Kabataan won. Still, it won’t be the same.
My mother will be not be working for the barangay anymore. It will be hard for everyone who loves Sir Igtiben to work for another official. Sir Igtiben have lots of plans, plans that will not be realized now. A lot of projects were lined up. I wonder what will happen now. I am depressed.

Maybe in three years, he won’t run for Barangay Captain anymore, maybe he will be the next Mayor of our community. I hope so.

I signed up for PPP!

Has anyone ever heard about Pay Per Post? A fellow blogger, Scart, to be exact, sent me a personal email and told me about it. She encouraged me to join because, according to her, I am able to express myself really well. I took her advice and signed up.

At first, I was disappointed that they only pay bloggers through Pay Pal, and the Philippine residents, at that time, were not allowed to accept payments. I sent an email to Pay Per Post and asked if there was an alternative way to get paid, and their response was quick, but bore bad news. According to Luke Mattern, their current method to pay bloggers is through Pay Pal, but is looking to see if they can add other means in the future.

Like I always do, I bloghop. I read from one of the blogs that the Philippines can now use the full functionality of Pay Pal. So, I tried my luck. I searched for an open opportunity at PPP, and I found one, hence publishing this first PPP entry. I am looking forward to finding more opportunities. What I like about Pay Per Post is that you can blog about the things you do know, or even love. It’s all about word of mouth ethics.

I can’t wait to earn more money so that I can purchase gifts for my family and friends this coming Holiday season. So if you are looking for a great online opportunity, try Pay Per Post.

Moving On

It’s official. Classes for this semester are finally over! I was able to finish my computer animation final’s piece at 4am Monday morning. It’s a short skit about a boy and a girl. I’ve uploaded it at You Tube. It was created with Flash MX. I’ve been so stressed out, I’ve had no decent sleep. At least now, I can sleep earlier and wake up late!

My friend’s mom died of breast cancer last weekend. The news seemed so sudden. My friend never mentioned anything about his mom. Well, he’s always been very secretive, and kept most things to himself. According to her girlfriend, his mom never told them of the bump she felt on her breasts, until she really felt ill and was rushed to the emergency room last Friday. The doctors said that chemotherapy is out of the question because the radiation will fry her. I don’t really know what to say to him, except that her mom’s soul is in my prayers. I don’t know what it feels like to lose a parent, and I don’t want to experience that any time soon. It must be really hard for a person in this situation to move on. All we can do for him right now is to be there for him.

Anyway, I want everyone who will comment on this entry to ask me a question. Any question that you may have in mind, and I will answer some, if not all, on my next update. Be creative!

Does anyone want a Holiday post card for me this coming December? Just use my contact form and choose “Get a Holiday Postcard” as the subject. Include your full name and complete address. :)
